Just offshore between Palamós and Calella, the Illes Formigues archipelago is one of Catalonia’s premier diving spots: drop-offs covered in gorgonians, curious groupers, schools of barracuda and the wreck of a 13th-century naval battle.
Palamós dive centres offer first dives for beginners as well as technical outings. The clear waters are also perfect for guided snorkelling.
Good to know: book the day before; visibility is best from May to October. A wetsuit comes in handy even in summer.
