Between La Fosca and the neighbouring headlands, the Costa Brava folds into a string of golden beaches and little coves hidden in the pine woods. These are our favourites, from the most family-friendly to the most secret.
The easy beaches
The beach of La Fosca is sandy, shallow and perfect for children; at the end of the day, the light on the ruins of the Sant Esteve castle that overlooks it is worth the trip. Just a step away, the Platja Gran de Palamós offers every service in the heart of town.
The coves with character
- Cala s’Alguer: its colourful fishermen’s huts make it one of the most photographed coves on the coast.
- Cala Margarida and the small neighbouring inlets, sheltered and quiet.
- Castell beach, which has stayed wild: on its own it deserves its own guide.
Heading towards Calella de Palafrugell, the coastal path reveals dozens more pocket coves, perfect for snorkelling.
Our host tips
- In summer, arrive early: the coves fill up fast.
- Wear proper shoes: you reach the loveliest inlets via the Camí de Ronda.
- Bring water: many coves have neither a kiosk nor any shade.
All of them are within reach of our apartments in La Fosca — enough to string together swims all summer long.
